Common Sense

You are likely reading this because you or a loved one has experienced a serious injury or death due to the fault of another. You are not a lawyer. You need to know what needs to be done to investigate and evaluate your claim and then to pursue your claim to the fullest extent of the law.

If you believe that corporations and insurance companies act as charities under these circumstances and that they will admit responsibility and pay total damages because they are friendly, you would be wrong, and you wouldn’t need us. If you understand that the goal of insurance companies and negligent corporations is to make money and that they will pay you as little as they can, then you are using your common sense, and we can help you.

A lawyer’s fee is based on a percentage of the recovery, usually 1/3. We charge nothing if we are not successful.

You should know that Michigan does not recognize “specialists” in this area of the law. Any first-year lawyer can buy a TV ad and say they are capable of handling your claim, but many of them are not.

If all lawyers charge the same percentage and anyone can say they can handle your case, common sense should tell you to do your homework.

Because insurance companies are not charities, it makes sense that the experience of the lawyer you hire is critical. The most important experience a lawyer in this field needs is trial experience. You cannot be a great injury attorney if you aren’t also a trial attorney.

Common sense tells you why. Most advertiser lawyers you see on TV are “settling Sam’s.” They never try cases. If a lawyer never tries cases, they always take what the insurance company offers. Common sense tells you that insurance companies keep track of that information.

Nearly all of our clients come to us by referral from other lawyers and judges who know of our expertise, not from TV ads. We are a small firm that limits our practice to cases involving serious injury and death. We try cases with permission from the client when the insurance companies act unreasonably. Whether a case is tried or settled is your decision.

If a lawyer or firm needs to bombard the airwaves with tv ads that means that they practice in volume . Why is that important ? First it tells you that you will likely be a number . Second it tells you that to meet the volume of cases they are constantly hiring new lawyers.

If you have already hired a lawyer but are unhappy, we will evaluate the case. If we decide to take over the case, it costs you nothing to make the change.

Does the Lawyer Limit His or Her Practice to Personal Injury Cases?

The reason you want to ask this question is obvious.

Does the Lawyer Try Cases?

Why is this important? Most lawyers who claim to be personal injury lawyers never try cases. This means that they ALWAYS settle for what the insurance companies offer. That tells the insurance company one thing: “Keep the offers low; they will settle for what we offer in the end.”

As you can see from our verdicts and settlements page, our verdicts often far exceed pre-trial settlement offers. That sends a message to insurance adjusters. Our trial results actually increase the chance that your case will settle, and when it does, it increases the settlement value.

When the Lawyer does Try the Case is He/She Successful ?

The reason this is important is common sense as well.

What do Other Lawyers Think of the Lawyer ?

Lawyers know who the great lawyers are just like doctors know who they would send their family members to for medical care. We are proud of the fact that the majority of our clients come to us by referral from other lawyers.

In addition, our ratings by Martindale Hubbell, Best Layers In America, Super Lawyers and Best Law Firms In America tell you that we are well respected in the legal community. Finally , two of our lawyers are members are members of ABOTA and one is a Fellow of the American College Of Trial Lawyers. Very few lawyers in the State have been honored by membership in these prestigious organizations.

The above information makes you an informed consumer . Whether you choose our firm or another, using this information and asking these questions will lead you to an informed decision.
